If we compare a wedding to the movie “Pretty Woman “, Julia Roberts is the flowers so your wedding cannot be completed without a beautiful flower arrangement, as the film would of not worked without Julia Roberts. Before choosing the right flowers on your wedding day, you have to ask yourself a number of questions such as:
- Where is your wedding location?
- What is your budget?
- What is your favorite flower?
- What is your color theme?
- What is the color of your wedding dress?
- What is your bridesmaid’s dress color?
With the answers to these questions and the information gathered will help make the decision easier.
Ceremony Flower
If you will have the ceremony at the beach, then your flower style will be either bamboo gazebo or flower arch with the petals on the aisle. If your budget is enough, then you can add 6 – 10 of the aisle stands but if you are on a tight budget then just the flower arch or gazebo will look great on the day.
At a villa or resort wedding, I would recommend to have either flower arch or the 2 altar stands with big flower arrangement on top of each stand. The aisle stands, there are many types, so size and number will be determined by your budget.
Regarding color, normally the bride will have either white or ivory dress so it is very easy as every type of flower color will go with the dress. Normally, the bridesmaid’s color of dress is different to that of the bride and more of a difficult option for choosing the correct flower color. If the bridesmaid has a pink or purple dress then flower can be white, ivory, pink or purple or all 3 of these colors can be mixed in the bouquet or in the flower theme.
If the bridesmaid has a blue dress, then the theme color can be white and blue or just blue. If bridesmaid has mint green dress, then the color theme can be white on the flower or coral on the flower. Then the chair sash and other decoration can be mint green. If bridesmaid’s dress in coral color then the flower theme can be white only or coral only or white mixed with coral.
When you have made a decision on the color then now we come to choosing the flower type; rose, orchid, lisainthus, lily, carnation, baby breath, lotus and any kind of tropical flower are highly recommended to use for your wedding here in Thailand. If you prefer imported flowers like peony, hydrangea, tulip the cost will be triple from your home country and they are not as fresh after a long period of shipping.
For ceremony examples, I have attached some of the gazebo & flower arch photos from the beach wedding. Also the flower arch at the villa and the 2 big stands at the villa wedding as ideas.
Reception Flowers
Flower arrangements for reception table or what we call a “centerpiece” is usually determined by the table shape. If you choose to have a round table, then you can have either an oblong (horizontal) low style or tall arrangement style. The tall arrangement will look more elegant than the low style one. For the long table set up, in my opinion, I think the low arrangement will suit better as you will have people sitting on both sides so the low arrangement one won’t block the line of sight of the guests. Of course, the tall arrangement can be done on a long table but you have to place the flower arrangements in the gaps between where people are not sitting, which may be difficult where space is at a premium.
In the case that you have the aisle stands for ceremony, you can reuse all the flower arrangements on the reception table and this will be a large saving on cost.

For reception examples, please take a look at the sample photos of oblong low style arrangement and tall arrangement. Plus, the reuse of the flower arrangements from the ceremony on the reception table as well.
I do hope the information above will give the bride-to-be some ideas and help her to make a more informed decision on the flowers part for that most important day. Should you need further information and my contact details are below, please feel free to contact me anytime.
